If you are reading this and wondering why it is posted here let me give you the reason. Each year the media splashes the warnings on their stations regarding the threat of children being harmed by registrants on Halloween. This leads parents to contact their state legislators indicating they want their children protected. More laws and more law enforcement resources are assigned to a Halloween themed gotcha program. Here is the real threat...moving vehicles.

Halloween ranks as the third-deadliest day overall for pedestrians,
according to the NHTSA analysis, which examined a quarter-century's
worth of data to determine the most dangerous days. The study found 715
    pedestrian
deaths from vehicles that occurred on Oct. 31 between
1978 and 2002. Halloween trails only December 23 (753 deaths) and
January 1 (751 deaths) for the dubious title of most dangerous day on
    the calendar for vehicle accidents.

There where more accidents while trick-or-treating this year: An SUV struck and killed three teenage girls, including twin sisters, while they were trick-or-treating in the Los Angeles area. Police are looking for the driver and his passenger. And in Washington state two 7-year-old girls and a 20-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries when they were hit by a car while trick-or-treating in Vancouver. In New York state, a 3-year-old boy was killed and a 16-year-old girl was seriously injured when they were hit by car while trick-or-treating. The car struck the boy and then teen as they were crossing a two-lane road near Rochester.

On Halloween 2014, seven children were killed by
vehicles while trick-or-treating...there where no cases, ever,of a child
harmed by a registrant while trick-or-treating. The media, and parents, need to focus on the real danger.
